Born in the state of Qi in 255 BC, Xu Fu devoted his life to the pursuit of knowledge and the search for eternal life.

When I was at school, I learnt from Chinese history textbooks the story of Xu Fu, who led 3,000 boys and girls from China's shores to Japan in search of the elixir of life for Emperor Qin Xi Huang. Emperor Qin was dictatorial and wanted to live forever. He had conquered all the warring states and had united China for the first time as a nation.

It is said that Xufu was sent by the first Emperor of Qin to lead thousands of people out to sea, looking for the elixir of life for the Emperor, and never returned. Meanwhile, his reputation was fairly high as a doctor among the people in coastal areas of ancient China.
