Some YC156 amp FAQs: What is a YC156 and why did you use it? The YC156 is a custom tube made for a medical equipment OEM for use in MRI systems. It is similar to a 3CPX5000A7, except it has a grid flange for direct chassis mounting. Another way to look at it: it's a 3CX15000B7 with a 5kW anode cooler (same internals and curves).

It produces about 1000 cfm through the tube (estimated from the back pressure and the fan manufacturers flow/pressure curve), but make a lot of noise. The fan takes 10A when running from the mains, and easily blows a 13A fuse every time at start-up. Neither tube requires a socket.

This circuit takes samples of the RF input and output of the amp under test, adjusts them for the amp gain, detects them with log amps, and displays the difference on a scope. The fixed and variable attenuators, along with the coupling factor of the directional couplers, are adjusted to set an equal and appropriate level at the log amp inputs.

The YC-156A is suitable for replacing the YC-156 in applications of pulsed rf amplifier service. This tube has a maximum anode voltage of 6500 volts and a peak anode current rating of 67 amperes. The anode is forced-air cooled for 5000 watts of dissipation. The YC-156A does not require a socket.

2009年4月14日 · Its rated at 5kw but is a 15kw tube w/5kw cooler. (I'm told) They are available online used/tested less than $400. (I may have two available if the doofus ever makes up his mind to make the trade with me). The tube bolts to the chassis with no socket - BIG plus. 2010年10月1日 · I built a plate block assy using 4 of em 2 years ago...with silver plated 1/4" thick cu buss bar on each end. You can get em in 15/20/25 kv. The assy was to be used in a '10m' mono band amp, using a 3CX-20,000A7 triode. Instead of tubing, the tank coil was made from 1.5" wide cu strap, wound flat. This amp this fellow built is the real deal.
