The Bureau at its twentieth extraordinary session recalled that at the time of the inscription of Shirakami-Sanchi and Yakushima the Committee requested a follow-up mission to review progress in 1996. IUCN informed the Bureau that it was invited by the Japanese authorities, but was not able to conduct a review in 1996 due to budgetary constraints.
