Shi Yinguang (Chinese: 釋印光; pinyin: shì yìnguāng; 11 January 1862 – 2 December 1940), or Yinguang for short, was a Chinese Buddhist monk and considered the 13th Patriarch of the Pure Land tradition. Yinguang lived during the rapid societal changes of the Republic of China, and is credited as a leader in the modern Buddhist revival movement.

Like Xu Yun, Yin Guang was a major contributor to the preservation and revival of the practice of Buddhism in China as its people lived through the cultural and social upheavals associated with the over-throw of the ancient imperial regime, and the sudden instigation of a modern Republican Movement in 1912.

This paper is a study of Dharma-master Yin-guang’s Avalokitesvara faith. Yin-guang resided in Pu-to Mountain for many years. He also revised The Annals of Pu-to Mountain and asked Lee Zhi-jing to compile Odes to Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara’s Manifested Responses to Appeals.

The Teachings of Great Master Yin Guang. Whether one is a layperson or has left the home life, one should respect elders and be harmonious to those surrounding him. One should endure when others cannot, and practise when other cannot achieve. One should take others' difficulties unto oneself and help them succeed in their undertakings.

While sitting quietly, one should often reflect upon one's own faults, and when chatting with friends, one should not discuss the rights and wrongs of others.
