In May 2007 the university was granted permission to build an extension to its main campus, on arable land just east of the nearby village of Heslington. The second campus, Campus East, opened in 2009 [10] and now hosts five colleges and three departments as well as conference spaces, a sports village and a business start-up 'incubator'.

Campus East is a 287 acres (116 ha) site which is part of the University of York. The campus is situated around a 35 acres (14 ha) lake mirroring the design of Campus West. [1] The site currently contains five colleges (Langwith, Goodricke, Constantine, Anne Lister, and David Kato) along with social hubs and academic departments. [2]

LOCATION: York University is based around the 200 acre Heslington campus which is approximately 20 minutes walk or under 10 minutes by bus to York city centre. The Heslington campus at York University contains a wealth of sporting facilities, both indoor and outdoor. These include playing fields and pitches, an athletic union (UYAU), jogging trails and an impressive sport centre, complete with tennis, badminton and squash courts.

Just outside the historic city of York, Heslington is dominated by the eastern campus of York University. With its landscaped parks, quaint cottages, and stunning countryside views, Heslington is the perfect place to unwind and soak up the beauty of North Yorkshire.

Life for students is centered in Heslington on the edge of York, where our colleges are set in a landscaped campus. Campus is compact, easy to get around, and has a safe, friendly atmosphere. Every room on campus has a code. To find a room, enter the code into the campus map. You can travel between Campus East and West for free on First York buses.
