The yukkuri has been a Japanese meme for a very long time, long before people even used the word 'meme' pertaining to internet icons. It has been used extensively within the Touhou fandom and outside of it.

Sometimes a Yukkuri-on-Yukkuri violence maybe resemble what humans would also do if they're in a similar scenario.

The Yukkuri has been around for more than a decade and besides from the very beginning of the fandom, it has largely exclusively been filled with abusers. The number of non/anti-abuse fans have only recently grown to a degree that they can make any kind of vocal opposition to it.
