Advances in science have made possible the derivation of reproductively viable gametes in vitro from mice. The research on human cells suggests that in vitro gametogenesis (“IVG”) with reproductive potential may one day be possible with humans.

In theory, doctors could take any cell from your blood, skin or hair; reprogram it in a lab to become a gamete and then use that to create fertilized embryos that would eventually be implanted into a uterus.
