2004年2月12日 · No, the ZL3 was the code to convert the body to accept the SS option. No more, no less. If that code was not there, the car would come out as a Malibu. Option codes like this contained parts lists and instuctions to plant personel as to how to built that option into the car.

All 396 L34 or L78 SS Chevelles got this code regardless of where it was built at. It is my understanding that the ZL3 code was telling the line worker this was an upgrade from a base Malibu.Thus the RPO Z25 396.

2004年12月30日 · I have some 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1972 Chevelle build sheets and that same hold true for those, some plants have ZL3 SS CONVERSION while other plants SS car do not have it. Some even say XL3 but do not have Z25 - SS 396. Like has been said, it an internal code to force the SS option on cars.

2006年2月18日 · The ZL3 is a code for the assembly line to adapt the car for the SS option, i.e. put the right equipment on the car like disc brakes, 12 bolt axle, punch holes, attach proper fuel & brake line and the like so when it got to the end of the line it was a Z15 SS454 or Z25 SS396. The ZL3 seems to show up on all Chevelles with 350 or 375 HP 396 engines.

2015年5月11日 · The 396 engine was the base engine for the SS option in a Chevelle...but, the Nova SS base engine was an L48 350/300hp small block.
