Zaofu is an autonomous city-state, located in the southwestern part of the Earth Kingdom, and the home of the Metal Clan. Founded by Suyin Beifong, the Clan's matriarch, Zaofu is constructed entirely out of metal and is regarded by some as the safest city in the world.

Though left behind to guard the Earth Empire, a soldier of Kuvira 's army helped Ikki locate Avatar Korra. The army set course toward Zaofu, as it was the last state to be annexed under Kuvira's rule in order to truly have the entire Earth Kingdom under control.

The fall of Zaofu was the final battle of the formation of the Earth Empire that took place in the area controlled by the city state of Zaofu. It was fought between the Earth Empire and Zaofu, commanded by Suyin Beifong, matriarch of the free city.

Like Korra could slaughter Kuvira and her entire army in seconds of she wanted to. I mean yeah Suyin even stated verbatim that she could wiped out Kuvira and her army if she went into the Avatar State. I wish I had an award to give out... I agree.

After her forces invade Zaofu, Baatar and Huan are arrested after refusing to bow to Kuvira. Meanwhile, Bolin and Varrick are forced to continue working on weaponizing the spirit vine energy. Varrick converts the stasis tube he is working on into a bomb, completely destroying his research and covering his and Bolin's escape.
