In The Maze Runner, Zart was first introduced not only as the Keeper of the Track-hoes, but also as the only Glader willing to answer any question, despite the fact that he was not really talkative. He always appeared at the Gatherings, and was the one to lead the Banishment of Ben.

Zart is one of the supporting protagonists of The Maze Runner. He is the Keeper of the Track-hoes and the best friend and fellow Glader of Thomas, Teresa, Newt, Minho, Gally, and Frypan. Zart is portrayed by Joe Adler, who also portrays Jason Wylie in The Mentalist.

Zart is the Keeper of the Track-hoes (Gardener). He is first seen when Thomas first arrives and starts to run. Zart says "Hey, we got a Runner!" He is usually seen working with Thomas and Newt (and occasionally seen with hanging with Chuck). Zart points out that Thomas, Minho, and Alby have returned from the Maze to the other Gladers.

Keepers were the leaders of each Job and Role in the Glade. Whenever necessary, they called a Gathering to discuss and decide the matters at hand, often extremely serious. Alby was First-in-Command and leader of the Gladers, but he was not a Keeper.

Keeper of the Gardens, Zart is the one who introduces Thomas to the job of Gardener and explains the multitude of different jobs in the Glade. he is described as tall and black haired and smells oddly of sour milk. He is always present in the Gatherings and is a very stoic boy.
