Zhao Yun (Chinese: 趙雲 pronunciation ⓘ) (died 229), [1] courtesy name Zilong (子龍), was a military general who lived during the late Eastern Han dynasty and early Three Kingdoms period of China.

Zhao Yun (onyomi: Chō Un) is a general of the Three Kingdoms period who has a record of good service. Liu Bei personally praised his bravery at Han River, though it was often noted that his feats were often under the radar and often boasted by various fictional biographies.

Zhao Yun played an important role in capturing the four southern districts of Jingzhou for Liu Bei. Zhao Yun was thus given the post of ‘Governor of Guiyang’. Before Liu Bei left for Yi province, he moved Zhao Yun to Gong’an.
