Zain Javadd "Zayn" Malik (/ ˈmælɪk / MAL-ik; born 12 January 1993) is an English singer-songwriter. He auditioned as a solo contestant for the British music competition television series The X Factor in 2010, where he ended up being a part of five-piece boy band One Direction, which went on to become one of the best-selling boy bands of all time.

Zayn Malik was born on January 12, 1993 in Bradford UK. He went to Tong High School before he decided to try out for the X Factor. When he first auditioned it wasn’t broadcasted on the air. During the boot camp on the X Factor Malik found out that he had to dance and he risked elimination to stay backstage.

Malik, known for his chart-topping hits and his quintessential boyish mystique, has over the years morphed from a boy band heartthrob with a winning smile to a solo artist with a sound as sexy as it is sophisticated. He’s traded the bubblegum pop beats for a musical universe that’s daring, soulful, and undeniably Zayn.
