Zippeite - Wikipedia
Zippeite is a hydrous potassium uranium sulfate mineral with formula: K 4 (U O 2) 6 (SO 4) 3 (OH) 10 ·4(H 2 O). It forms yellow to reddish brown monoclinic-prismatic crystals with perfect cleavage. The typical form is as encrustations and pulverulent earthy masses. It forms as efflorescent encrustations in underground uranium mines.

Note: Many of the specimens that are labeled "zippeite" are actually natrozippeite (the sodium-dominant member of the group), especially those from sedimentary deposits. Structurally related to redcanyonite .

Zippeite
The yellow patches you see here are probably zippeite (darker yellow) and uraninite (uranium oxide- lighter yellow) - this specimen came from the Delta Mine in Utah, which was mined almost exclusively for uranium; this specimen went to the well-known collection of …
We have synthesized analogues of zippeite, sodium-zippeite, magnesium-zippeite, zinc-zippeite and cobalt-zippeite, and report their crystal structures herein. We have also synthesized single crystals of three zippeite-group compounds that have not been observed in na-ture: two compounds containing NH4 (designated

ZIPPEITE (Hydrated Potassium Uranyl Sulfate Hydroxide)
Zippeite is formed as a secondary mineral and as an efflorescent crust in uranium mines. Efflorescent means it forms on the surface of a rock by the evaporation of water when in contact with the dry air of the mine.
