EIF4E - Wikipedia
Many cellular mRNAs require eIF4E in order to be translated into protein. The eIF4E polypeptide is considered by some to be the rate-limiting component of the eukaryotic translation apparatus and is involved in the mRNA-ribosome binding step of eukaryotic protein synthesis.
eIF4E orchestrates mRNA processing, RNA export and translation …
In this review, we describe the multifactorial roles of eIF4E in major mRNA-processing events including capping, splicing, cleavage and polyadenylation, nuclear export and translation. We discuss the evidence that eIF4E acts at two levels to generate widescale changes to processing, export and ultimately the protein produced.
eIF4E, the mRNA cap-binding protein: from basic discovery to ...
A prime target of translational control is the initiation factor eIF4E, which recognizes the m7GpppN cap structure present at the 5' end of all nuclear transcribed eukaryotic mRNAs. In this article I describe the discovery of eIF4E, its mechanism of action in translation initiation, and its role in the control of cancer and innate immunity.
Control of the eIF4E activity: structural insights and …
The central role of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E) in controlling mRNA translation has been clearly assessed in the last decades. eIF4E function is essential for numerous physiological processes, such as protein synthesis, cellular growth and differentiation; dysregulation of its activity has been linked to ageing, cancer ...
eIF4E-independent translation is largely eIF3d-dependent
2024年8月6日 · We study here how mRNAs are translated in an eIF4E1-independent manner by blocking eIF4E1 using a constitutively active version of eIF4E-binding protein (4E-BP). Via ribosome profiling we...

A biochemical framework for eIF4E-dependent mRNA export and …
2016年11月29日 · The eukaryotic translation initiation factor eIF4E plays a major role in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression (Carroll and Borden 2013). eIF4E is localized in both the nucleus and cytoplasm where it acts in the mRNA export and translation of a specific subset of mRNAs, respectively (Carroll and Borden 2013).
eIF4E-binding protein regulation of mRNAs with differential 5′ …
Abstract. Control of translation in eukaryotes is complex, depending on the binding of various factors to mRNAs. Available data for subsets of mRNAs that are translationally up- and down-regulated in yeast eIF4E-binding protein (4E-BP) deletion mutants are coupled with reported mRNA secondary structure measurements to investigate whether 5′-UTR secondary structure varies between the subsets.
