2009年9月28日 · While the R38 fleet was being retired, the intention was to retire the R32MK-I next. As it was decided that R40s and R42s were unsuitable to C line service, the R40Ss were replaced after the R38s, instead of the R32.

2012年3月18日 · Built to B-Division dimensions (60 feet long and 10 feet wide), the R38 units were the first of the New York City Subway trains to have air-conditioners. They reached a maximum speed of 55 mph. They were similar to the R32 units.
