Passat vs TSX is comparing apples and oranges: Acura is a near luxury / luxury brand. VW is not. VW is not. Acura's competitors: Audi, Volvo, Lexus, Saab, Mercedes, BMW, Infiniti VW's competitors: Honda, Toyota, Nissan, etc. Acura's level of service tends to be better - especially if they want to keep pace with said competitors.

I recently purchased a '99 Passat 6 cyl and I couldn't be more pleased. Solid, exceptionally well built and very fun to drive. I test drove the 4 cyl. It performs well with a manual trans. but a little sluggish with an automatic. I traded in a 91' Honda which had to have the automatic transmission rebuilt at 80,000 miles ($1500!).

As Juice says, personal preferences certainly make a difference. My wife and I came down to the Passat wagon vs the Legacy GT wagon. Our difference was the hesitancy about the turbo 4. We wanted to avoid a turbo, so we decided it had to be the V6 GLS if VW. That drives the price about $2-3k (with luxury package) above the GT.

had a 2012 passat and now have a 2015 passat. Have driven the accord as well. Passat seems to me to be more solid than the accord. I also like the simpler layout of the dash compard to the accord with its multiplt screens. Have had no issues with either passat. Mine is a lease and the dealership included the maintenance at 10K, 20K, 30k.
