Portal hypertensive gastropathy (PHG) and gastric antral vascular ectasia (GAVE) are two distinct entities that are frequently mistaken with each other, because they present with similar manifestations.

2017年12月20日 · Gastric antral vascular ectasia (GAVE) and portal hypertensive gastropathy (PHG) are mucosal lesions that can cause chronic gastrointestinal bleeding in the patients with cirrhosis. While PHG occurs exclusively in patients with liver cirrhosis, GAVE can also present in patients with systemic and autoimmune conditions.

Patients with cirrhosis are at an increased risk of gastrointestinal hemorrhage, with the most common source being gastroesophageal varices. However, there are gastrointestinal mucosal lesions typical of cirrhosis that may also bleed in these patients, namely portal hypertensive gastropathy (PHG) and gastric vascular ectasia (GAVE).

We tested our criteria in a cross-sectional cohort of cirrhotic adults with GAVE and PHG when high-definition white light endoscopy (HDWLE) diagnosis was in doubt.
