2015年9月11日 · This three-view drawing of the Yak-3 VK-108 shows that even with the cockpit moved aft 15.75 in (.40 m), the aircraft was very similar to a standard VK-105-powered Yak-3. The ideal standard production Yak-3 had a top speed of 404 mph (650 km/h) at 14,108 ft (4,300 m) and 354 mph (570 km/h) at sea level.

The Yak-3 was superior to both the Fw 190 and Bf 109G at altitudes below 16,000 feet when it entered service in July 1943. The Museum’s Yakovlev Yak-3M is one of a small production run of these aircraft built around the time of the Soviet Union’s collapse in 1991.

The cockpit test pilot V.L. Rastorguev. The Yak 3R was fitted with an RD-1 GHSH liquid fuel rocket, developed by W.P. Glushko in 1944 and flown by V.L. Rastorguev. The aircraft reached 485.9 mph at 25,590 ft but on the third test flight, on 16 August 1945, the rocket exploded killing the pilot and destroying the sole Yak 3R.

Detail wise the cockpit is built up between two tubular frames with front and back sections and the level of detail should satisfy most modelers. Only the instrument panel is a bit of a let down, looking a bit plain with just raised bezels and no instrument detail.

The cockpit is built up on the top of the upper wing surface which has the floor pan molded into it. The main gear bays are enclosed and feature structural details and the cockpit walls molded into the fuselage also are detailed.
