During the 1890s the area now known as Grand County was dotted with many small villages and communities. Other then Moab, only 2 remain, Cisco and Thompson. Not much remains of these old towns and communities today, so only history is left to tell their tales. One of the first towns in the area was called Plainsfield.

2021年11月11日 · Several of Grand County’s ghost towns are related to mining. Sego, Utah, has been known by a few names since Euro-American activity began there during the 1900s. Around the turn of the twentieth century, Harry G. Ballard arrived from England to settle in Thompson Springs, buying property and land to ranch.

2009年6月4日 · The Utah Ghost Town Project (UGTP) seeks to preserve, document, photograph, research and share historical ghost towns throughout Utah and its neighboring states. This project is a joint cooperation between several Utah historical based groups jointly working together collectively as the Utah Ghost Town Association (UGTA).

During the Moab Museum’s “Grand County Ghost Towns” program, every Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. until October 31, participants will trace the path of that 1904 postcard by looking at historic photos and listening to oral histories depicting life in those once bustling towns.

2009年2月22日 · Sego is located in Grand County, North of Thompson by about 5 miles. The town of Sego had changed names a few times, usually being named after the current land owner or the manager of the mine. Eventually the name of Sego stuck, named after the Utah state flower, the Sego Lily was abundant in the canyon.
