Laon-Athies Air Base is an abandoned military airfield, which is located near the city of Laon in the Aisne department of France. Its history begins before World War II, when it was originally a grass civil airdrome.

On 13 October 1944, the 323rd moved to Laon/Athies Airfield from which the group flew missions in the Battle of the Bulge from December 23 -27, 1944 for which the Distinguished Unit Citation was conferred upon the group.

The airfields history began before the outbreak of World War II, when it was an Aerodrome, laid out in markers on the grass. In 1937, Laon-Athies was little more than a grass field with horse shoe shaped markers and a set of arrows in the northernmost corner of the field (IGN).

2015年7月25日 · With each combat group having three fully equipped squadrons, the airfield at Laon-Athies became one of the busiest American bases on the continent. With the war ended, Laon/Athies airfield was closed on 23 May 1945 and turned over to the French Air Ministry.

Began operations in July 1943, attacking marshaling yards, airdromes, industrial plants, military installations, and other targets in France, Belgium, and Holland. Assigned to the 9th Air Force, IX BC on October 16, 1943. Moved to Beaulieu in July 1944 and to France in Late August 1944.
