The M39 series 5-ton 6×6 truck (G744) was a family of heavy tactical trucks built for the United States Armed Forces between 1951 and 1965. The basic cargo version was designed to transport a 5-ton (4,500 kg), 14 ft (4.3 m) long load over all terrain in all weather.

Designed as a replacement for the wartime Diamond T 969 and Ward La France M1 wreckers, the prototype XM62 was completed in 1951 (the X prefix prior to the M designation indicates that the vehicle has not yet been type classified by the military).

2008年7月14日 · The M62 saw frequent use as a crane in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The smooth, precise action of the Austin-Western hoist on it made the truck ideal for handling tactical nuclear weapons, such as the Honest John.

The M62 5-ton medium wreck truck belongs to the M39 series of 5-ton trucks that first went into production in 1951. It was quickly accepted into service as the M62 and continued in production until 1957.

This is a simple walkaround focusing on the Wrecker Crane and Accessories of the 5-Ton 6 X 6 Medium Wrecker Truck M62/G744, as she appeared in December, 2021. This M62 is on display at the 45th Infantry Division Museum in Oklahoma City. I suspect the basic truck is well known so I focused on the wrecker boom and operator station.
