This paint scheme, combining yellow, red and black, has come to be called the Kodachrome paint scheme due to the colors' resemblance to those on the boxes that Kodak used to package its Kodachrome slide film (which was heavily used by railfans of the time).

2005年1月31日 · Some were also offered in SP logo. These were the first I had seen, and though the merger was dated later than the era of my layout, I just couldn’t resist adding the splash of color. They really brighten things up. Athearn also produced F45s and FP45s in the SPSF Kodachrome scheme.

SD40 7303 illustrates something I've wondered about - did SP apply a thinner coat of red than Santa Fe, or use a different brand of paint altogether? On a lot of SP Kodachromes that survived into the 90's, the red was clearly wearing through to reveal the undercoat of yellow, and you can see that beginning to happen on 7303.
