Akio Asakura (朝倉アキオ Asakura Akio) is the main protagonist of Wangan Midnight. He is a high school student who finds a broken down Nissan Fairlady Z (S30), nicknamed the “ Devil Z ”, at a junkyard and with the help of his friend, repairs the car and starts driving it on the expressway. Akio Asakura's Nissan Fairlady Z (also known as the Fairlady Z, the Z, or the Z31) is a car previously owned by Akio Asakura. He would later sell his Fairlady Z before switching to his signature vehicle, the Devil Z. It is the first Fairlady Z in the series. The car is a Nissan Fairlady Z 2by2, chassis code Z31. It is painted in Regatta Red.

He drives a Nissan Fairlady Z31 in which its engine overheated when he encountered Reina's R32 and tried to chase after it. He is then seen riding with Hiramoto during the latter's encounter with Reina and her R32 on the Wangan, and the race with the Devil Z and the Blackbird. In the anime adaptation, he is voiced by Tsubasa Yonaga.
