Zou Yan (Chinese: 鄒衍; 305 BC – 240 BC) was a Chinese philosopher and spiritual writer of the Warring States-era. He was best known as the representative thinker of the Yin and Yang School (or School of Naturalists) during the Hundred Schools of Thought era in Chinese philosophy.

Zou Yan was a Chinese cosmologist of the ancient state of Qi (in present-day Shandong) and leading exponent of the Yinyang school. The only account of his life is a brief one in the Shiji (“Record of the Historian”).

The system of elements, which was associated with the idea of the opposing yin and yang forces, became the basis of the Chinese Naturalist school.
