Jun 2, 2020 · Cut the width (i.e., rip a strip off of a larger piece) to just under the height of the back of the shelves. Screw it in into the studs and then screw the shelves into the plywood. The plywood will bend a little (and/or you can shim it out as needed) to fit the wall so that the shelves will not have a big difference between them like they do now.

Jul 5, 2022 · A hack is to lie it face down, make sure it's square, and bleed wood glue in around the edges of the back panel. Of course this is permanent. Another permanent hack is to nail into the back of a couple of shelves, in several places per shelf. But I've only had to do either of these on shelves that have been dismantled few times.

Mar 24, 2022 · I hung 6 Ikea shelves (these ones, which are metal L-shaped brackets with wood shelves on top) on plaster walls using medium-duty plastic anchors. It was a real issue while we were working. The building was built in the 60s and the wall I'm using appears to be entirely plaster with no studs, no lath, nothing (as far as I can tell).
