The 12AU7 and its variants are miniature nine-pin (B9A base) medium-gain dual-triode vacuum tubes. It belongs to a large family of dual-triode vacuum tubes which share the same pinout (RETMA 9A). 12AU7 is also known in Europe under its Mullard–Philips tube designation ECC82. [1]

The 12AU7 is probably the first Noval (B9A) tube ever, registered on October 18, 1946, in the Electron Tube Registration List, followed by the 2C51, registered on November 25, 1946. From the Dowd-RCA archives, we learn that the 12AU7 was preceded by the experimental type A4498 from November 1945.

2022年5月13日 · My very favorite 12AU7 type tube is the Amperex (Holland) 6085. As big as an EL84 power tube it imparts a body and smoothness to the sonic presentation that I just love in several 12AU7 spots on my components.

I bought this 12au7 to replace the blown 12ax7 in my Orange Micro Terror and the difference in how my amp sounds now is exactly what I was looking for. Basically, this tube allows me to turn the gain up without getting fizzy, almost-useless distortion.
