Norteños (Spanish: for Northerners), or Norteñas for females, is a coalition of Mexican street gangs who pay tribute to Nuestra Familia (Our Family). Norteños identify with the color red; the number 14 ("XIV/ X4), which signifies N, the 14th letter of the alphabet; and the huelga bird.

It is the second largest triad group in the world with around 20,000 members split into thirty subgroups. They are the main rival of the Sun Yee On, which is the largest triad. [7] The 14K is responsible for large-scale drug trafficking around the world, most of it heroin and opium from China or Southeast Asia.

The Norteños commonly use a whistle chirp, which is derived from Mexican rancho calls. These are also used by other gangs such as Surenos, Crips, and other groups in intercity areas. They are most often used to warn others about police activity in the area, but for the Norteños, they are mostly used to show affiliation.

The Gang of 14 was a bipartisan group of Senators in the 109th United States Congress who successfully, at the time, negotiated a compromise in the spring of 2005 to avoid the deployment of the so-called "nuclear option" by Senate Republican Majority over an organized use of the filibuster by Senate Democrats.

The Nuestra Familia was the first prison gang to ever be federally indicted for violation of the R. I. C. O. act in the early 1980s. The gang has a written constitution, rules (known as the 14-bonds) and an organized leadership structure.

TdA is a gang that formed in a Venezuela prison and has since developed into a “transnational crime organization.”
