The 190 A-8 was a fairly significant improvement over the previous A-7. Additions included a 115-liter tank for increased range, more armament, and the all-important GM-1 boost. GM-1 was quite important for high-altitude fighters where the air is much thinner than at sea level.

2019年9月11日 · Started this heavily armored Würger flown by Oblt. Hans Weik, CO of 10. (Sturm)/JG 3 in June 1944. This is one of the options in Eduard’s excellent Reichverteidigung kit. It’s the same build as the recently released A-8/R2 but with different marking options.

2024年12月4日 · The crash relic is from the this particular plane itself, gifted by Cees Broere. It's the edge of the aileron. The plane was hit by friendly ground fire during operation Bodenplatte. The pilot bailed out. Chute did not open and he fell hard on the frozen water. The trim gauge and button are both from a Fw190 left cockpit console.

A portion of A-8 production was built as the A-8/R2 and A-8/R8, armed with Mk108 cannon in the outer wing location, and with armored slabs added to the cockpit sides and a modified canopy. The final production version of the BMW 801 powered fighter was the Fw 190A-9, equipped with the BMW 801TS of 2000 hp (1470kW).
