The Federal Motor Truck Company was an American truck manufacturer headquartered in Detroit, Michigan. The company was founded in 1910 as Bailey Motor Truck Company by Martin L. Pulcher, who would later found the Oakland Motor Car Company, which launched the Pontiac GM companion brand in 1926.

1930-1939 was the third decade of Federal's existence. Of course, the Stock Market Crash of 1929 led to The Great Depression in the early 1930's. In this time, Federal's sales dwindled to around 1,500 a year, which was comparatively good compared to many other companies of the time, many of which didn't make it.

In the late 1940s Federal was selling around 6000 trucks every year in the USA and exporting around 600 to Central America, 300 to Australia and many other vehicles to Europe and the Middle East. At that time, it was reported there were some 50,000 Federal trucks in use worldwide and 300 franchised dealers.

Their products included light duty pick-up trucks for general use, a range of delivery trucks, heavy haulers, and school buses. During the mid-Thirties the company even made a few travel trailers under the name “Motohome” for living purposes and “Motomart” for commercial use.

This listing is for a superb original and totally un-restored 1948 Federal Model 16M2 1-12 ton truck chassis with cab. Due to the decal on the doors, I believe it was originally used as a bulk fuel delivery truck or a fuel tanker at a local airport.
