2 nd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment (2 RCR) is a mechanized infantry battalion that is under the command of 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group (2 CMBG) and administered by Land Force Atlantic Area. Gregg Barracks, named for Victoria Cross winner Milton F. Gregg, is home to 2 RCR at 5 th Canadian Division Support Base Gagetown.

The Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR) is an infantry regiment of the Canadian Army. The regiment consists of four battalions, three in the Regular Force and one in the primary reserve. The RCR is ranked first in the order of precedence amongst Canadian Army infantry regiments, but in a quirk of the rules of seniority, its 4th battalion is ninth.

On 18 October 1899, the Canadian Government raised the 2nd (Special Service) Battalion of the regiment for service in South Africa. The battalion was Canada’s first infantry component to serve in the Boer War, and it formed the vanguard of a national contribution that would see more than 8000 Canadian troops committed to the conflict.

On November 29th, 2024, we witnessed a truly momentous occasion – the Cairn Consecration Ceremony at 2 RCR. This solemn and significant event honors the history, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment of those who have served before us and reinforces the deep bond that unites us as a Regiment.

During the 1950s and 1960s, battalions of The RCR were stationed as part of 4 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group ( 4 CNBG) at Fort York, Germany. These deployments were executed by 1RCR (1955–57 and 1962–65) and 2RCR (1953–55 and 1965–70). 3rd Battalion was later deployed to Germany, stationed in Baden-Söllingen 1977–84 and 1988–93.
