3 SA Infantry Battalion’s (3 SAI) inception was on 01 January 1962 at Lenz. It was moved to Potchefstroom on 05 December 1968 to train Citizen Force Members (National Service) as infantry soldiers. The unit was given operational status with two infantry battalions organized under the command of one Commanding Officer.
