The strong radio source 3C 324 is identified with a faint cluster galaxy, with V approximately 22.6. The new CCD spectroscopic data yield an emission-line redshift, z(e) = 1.2063. The emission spectrum is narrow-line and shows a characteristic low-ionization level.

2001年10月29日 · We discuss the properties of galaxies around the radio galaxy 3C 324 at z=1.2 based on BVRIK' multi-band imaging data. We have applied a photometric-redshift technique to objects in the 3C 324 field, and identified 35 objects as plausible cluster members.
In the infrared, 3C 324 appears to be a round, giant elliptical galaxy. In the UV, it is bimodal (at least) and elongated in the general direction of the radio source.

3C 324 is a proto-typical powerful radio galaxy with strong UV-optical alignment effect. The object is known to sit in the dense environment of the galaxies at the same distance. In this contribution, we present the results of the NIR imaging observations made during the telescope comissioning period of the Subaru 8.2m telescope.
