The 512th Rescue Squadron is part of the 58th Special Operations Wing based at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. It formerly operated the Bell UH-1N Twin Huey and currently operates the Sikorsky HH-60G Pave Hawk and the new HH-60W Jolly Green II helicopters training aircrew conducting search and rescue missions.

512th was a Bombardment unit between 1942 and 1965. Reactivated as 512th Special Operations Squadron ( 512th SOS ) on 1994 within the 58th Special Operations Wing at Kirtland AFB. Redesignated 512th RQS on October 2000.

2021年9月22日 · The 512th Bombardment Squadron (Heavy) was constituted on October 19, 1942 and activated on 31 October 1942 at Lydda, Palestine in October 1942 flying B-17’s and B-24’s. The Squadron only operated the B-17’s during 1942 and were then moved to Abu Sueir, Egypt in 1942, Gambut, Soluch and Bengasi all in Libya during 1943.

2017年1月10日 · Aircraft tail number 81-23644, an HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter assigned to the 512th Rescue Squadron, passed 12,000 hours during a three-hour training mission Dec. 28. Now “644” leads all Air Force HH-60s in flying hours, according to Thomas Mizner, who oversees documentation and historical records for M1 Support Services.
