Feb 2, 2022 · the -6223 cranks were made with 5140 forged steel IIRC. the 4340 cranks made today are stronger though i bought a couple of brand new -6223 cranks a few years ago, using one now in my 427, it is showing 800+hp at the crank i do run a little bit of boost thru my little 427..

Apr 30, 2005 · In short, the 6223 "rang" better than any of the others ( including a new OEM blem 6223 that was a few bucks cheaper). Pretty scientific huh? That's what the machinist said to do, "ring" them. He set the 7115 up and 'rang' it, and it defintely didnt sound nice, clear and long duration. Mag'd it and found 4 cracks is why. Wierd but true.

Dec 19, 2006 · One reference book I have has the 6223 listed for 396(65-69)/402(70-71) blocks only. The 366, 396 and 427 did share the 4815 and 4816 cranks and the 396/366/402 shared the 3144 cranks. Only the 6223 were forged I believe.

Apr 8, 2003 · And crate L88's after those years, found a beat up 7115 in mine.( 1972-3 crate 88) One reason I went with the higher $ SRP pistons was the weight savings which caused the "new" 6223 crank to balance up easier with 7/16" rods.

Jun 29, 2003 · There were in fact 6223 forged, crosdrilled, and nitrided cranks. I have a special NOS two piece (broken) one in my garage. The 7115 piece was used in 68-69 L88's and 69 ZL1's and is the only GM 3.76" stroke crank that is counterweighted for the big 7/16" rods as those were the only 427's to have the big rods.
