2006年1月15日 · Hi, Just curious why did you use a 12BH7 as opposed to the 12AU7 or the 6SN7 or 6CG7 tube? I am not doubting your choice for the tube used. Have been looking around for a good tube preamp to build. Was interested in the 12B4, but people out there saying the 6H30 or even the old venerable 6SN7 or 6N1p is better. Anyway, just curious at this point.

2022年12月5日 · 110k seems much too high a plate resistor for the 6SN7 gain stage in this circuit. If you insist on a B+ of 150 volts, a 30k plate resistor will give decent results and the complete circuit will draw a total of about 5.4 mA from the power supply.

2016年8月20日 · New Products & Super Triode Amplifiers They offer a very nice looking preamp board too. I built a similar constant current 6SN7 preamp and really like it with cheap 2092 power amps. But does add too much gain. A single stage 12B4 preamp is really nice too. I tried many variations with CCSs in plate and cathode positions but went back to resistors.

2020年3月1日 · Then, bought some boutique 6SN7s no longer made. If you do go with a 6SN7 based preamp, and must buy new tubes, try the Sophia Electric Blue - not cheap but nice. Looking around you see a bit of a paradigm shift by some preamp and amp designers now leaning back to 12AU7, 12AT7s for better tube availability.

2022年2月22日 · @hilde45 another factor in responses so far may also relate to some people jumping up a level or two on design and improved parts quality with their next tube preamp purchase. Strictly speaking, i.e bumping from something like a $1500 12Axx preamp up to a $3000+ 6SN7 based [a higher quality] tube preamp as a normal course of order.

2017年11月12日 · There's countless tube preamp designs out there and you haven't said what it needs to do and so on. However, assuming you landed on a single 6SN7/channel as a design criteria for a good reason, this would be a better way to go. Frank's Ultimate Tube Preamp.

Regarding to the power supply I have red comments that CLC sounds more natural and dynamic if high quality chokes is used like AN HIB core next to tube shunt regulator ...

2002年11月18日 · It's a great high voltage driver that can source some current, but for a CF intended to pass a couple of volts at most, a higher gm tube with higher mu might be a better choice from the standpoints of source impedance and distortion. Don't misunderstand me, a 6SN7 will work OK, it's just not optimal.

2017年1月9日 · The 6AH4 is a 7.5W power tube. It is probably only linear when it is standing quite a bit of plate current. That could be a good thing in this case. If you use it that way, the tube plate resistance is low, about 1800 Ohms.

2017年9月23日 · I have owned this preamp for several years and have only replaced the original tubes, which may have been EH tubes, only once and the Soviet manufactured tubes are still going strong. I leave my tube preamp on 24/7/365. I think that the last ones I bought were less than $10/each. For a small price you can evaluate these tubes on your SLP-05.
