BR 4MT Class 4-6-0 locomotive No. 75073 (built 1955, with 82F Bath Green Park shedplate) and Bulleid West Country Class No. 34042 Dorchester (built 1948) coast down-gradient through Midsomer Norton South with a through service of at least nine carriages. The signalman waves to the loco crews from an open window of his box.

These locomotives were designed for cross-country and secondary passenger work. They are a smaller version of the Standard class 5 73000 locomotives and as they are weigh lighter they had almost universal route availability over main and secondary routes throughout Britain.

WHEN TEST RUN THE LOCO AND TENDER RAN FORWARDS AND BACKWARDS AND THROUGH POINTWORK SUCCESSFULLY, ALTHOUGH THE LOCO HUNTS AND WADDLES QUITE NOTICEABLY AT HIGHER SPEEDS, PROBABLY DUE TO IT'S SPLIT CHASSIS CONSTRUCTION AND AGE.

BR 4MT class 4-6-0 locomotive No. 75073 (built 1955) and BR Standard Class 5 No. 73054 (built 1954) are on a Down passenger service (likely to be a through service) having just passed through the Chilcompton Tunnels. Ahead of them, the Chilcompton Down Distant signal is ‘off’ and at the end of the curve, Redan Bridge can be seen.
