824 Squadron formed at Gosport from No. 460 Flight on 3 April 1933 with nine Fairey IIIFs as a spotter and reconnaissance unit and embarked in HMS EAGLE for the Far East in June. The Squadron lost its identity on 8 October 1934 but a new 824 was formed the same day at Upavon with Fairey Seals.
