2005年11月10日 · Thanks for your reply Peijunfei, but is the ZTZ 99A tank with the GL-6 aps recently nothing more than a testbed for the new generation tank or will it become a new variant of the 99 family in the near future?

2014年3月15日 · A different armor package (note the slat armor). Perhaps an upgrade or for urban warfare? If they scaled up this design to the size of a 99A MBT, the PLA would actually have a decent tank for once. None of that carousel volcano that is common to most Soviet tanks.

2005年11月10日 · The VT-4 seems like a downgrade from the ZTZ-99A to me; I don't know why the PLA would want to induct it. If the idea is to supplant 96As with VT-4s, there are flaws in that idea too.The ZTZ-96A is a low-cost, low-weight, well-balanced MBT suitable for the North, South and the Tibetan plateau which is why the PLA has continued its production. The VT-4 is essentially a ZTZ-99 with a new chassis ...

2014年1月6日 · It's a pretty good tank, especially since a lot of Thai terrain and roads are unsuitable for heavier tanks (ZTZ-99A, M1A2, Leopard 2). Thats actually a very good point, wondering why Thailand didn't choose the lighter one like T-96A. It seems VT-4 has a better specs than T-84M

2005年11月10日 · Okay 99A gets frontal protection well by pure brute forcing it with extremely thick (for Soviet/Chinese tank doctrine) armour then adding further layer of wedge modular armour and a layer of modern ERA on top. This is like twice T-90M's frontal but all those nearly 10 tonnes of extra weight...

2005年11月10日 · The performance of the 99A tank has been exaggerated by military enthusiasts. Limited by my English level, I cannot provide more detailed translation. But I chose some interesting details. ——During the review troops, a command tank led the phalanx, and other tanks did not use camouflage antennas as a distinction. ——The 99A's artillery-launched missiles has just begun to be equipped in ...

2005年11月10日 · For example the thinking behind Turkish army could be that the MBT is some sort of special forces behind enemy lines with a lot of self reliance and requires the mobility and protection to deal with multiple threat directions. The PLA want the 99A as the heavy weight high end tank to deal with high end threats in regards to armour vs armour.

2005年11月10日 · The Abrams has better fire rate with a competent human loader. 99A has the highest weight to crew ratio out of any tank. That's also mostly focused on frontal arc, instead of evenly distributed across the whole tank. Unlike the Abrams, the 99A hasn't ever been seen with countermeasures like sandbags, tires and cope cages fitted on it.

2005年11月10日 · Look at ZBD-08 and ZTL-11 in the mixed brigade, they have way better maneuverability. PLAGF still adopts a defensive doctrine, since the infrastructure is superb, wheeled-vehicles are emphasized. The problem for MBT is, how heavy shall the tank be? Hardly anything can survive after being hit by...
