The A38, parts of which are known as Devon Expressway, Bristol Road and Gloucester Road, is a major A-class trunk road in England. The road runs from Bodmin in Cornwall to Mansfield in Nottinghamshire. It is 292 miles (470 km) long, making it the longest two digit A road in England.

The A38 is a lengthy route - in fact, it’s the second longest road in the UK, shorter only than the A1. It stretches from Bodmin, in Cornwall - at one end of the country - to Mansfield, in the east Midlands and the very heart of the UK.

Two trunk roads created in 1936 included sections of the A38: the Exeter-Leeds trunk road between Exeter and Derby, and the London-Penzance trunk road between Exeter and Bodmin. Almost as soon as you are off the Tamar Bridge heading into Cornwall, the A38 dives into this tunnel in Saltash.
