AB 43, Friedman. Traffic safety. (1) Existing law establishes various default speed limits for vehicles upon highways, as specified. Existing law authorizes state and local authorities to adjust these default speed limits, as specified, based upon certain findings determined by an engineering and traffic survey.

This AB 43 change helps address the dangers presented to vulnerable road users (i.e., pedestrians and bicyclists) due to drivers habitually driving five to ten miles over the posted speed limit.
