Epithelial sodium channel - Wikipedia
The epithelial sodium channel (ENaC), (also known as amiloride-sensitive sodium channel) is a membrane-bound ion channel that is selectively permeable to sodium ions (Na+). It is assembled as a heterotrimer composed of three homologous subunits α or δ, β, and γ, [2] These subunits are encoded by four genes: SCNN1A, SCNN1B, SCNN1G, and SCNN1D.
Hormonal Regulation of the Epithelial Sodium Channel ENaC
In the urinary bladder of the toad (Girardet et al., 1986) and in the cortical collecting duct (CCD) of the rat (Reif et al., 1986), ADH increases sodium transport through a cAMP-dependent mechanism, via rapid (within minutes) nongenomic activation of ENaC and, later (within hours), by genomic activation (or repression) of a number of genes ...
Defining the Contribution of ENaC to ADH-mediated Water and …
2016年7月25日 · To reconcile the apparent conflicting roles of ADH in regulating both water and balance, we propose a unifying paradigm that defines the contribution of ENaC as a regulator of water and Na+ balance. We hypothesize that simultaneous activation of ENaC and AQP2 by ADH promotes urine concentration and plasma dilution.
Epithelial Na+ Channel (ENaC), Hormones, and Hypertension
This minireview examines both the basic science and clinical observations over the past 20 years to show how and why overstimulation of the amiloride-sensitive epithelial Na+ channel (ENaC) expressed by epithelial principal cells of the renal ...
Epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) and the control of blood …
2014年4月1日 · The amiloride-sensitive epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) constitutes the rate-limiting step for sodium reabsorption in epithelial cells that line the distal part of the renal tubule, the distal colon, the duct of several exocrine glands, and the lung.
Aldosterone-independent regulation of the epithelial Na+ channel (ENaC …
2012年6月4日 · The epithelial Na + channel (ENaC) in the aldosterone-sensitive distal nephron (ASDN) is under negative-feedback regulation by the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system in protection of sodium balance and blood pressure. We test here whether aldosterone is necessary and sufficient for ENaC expression and activity in the ASDN.
Function and Regulation of the Epithelial Na+ Channel ENaC
2021年6月1日 · The Epithelial Na + Channel, ENaC, comprised of 3 subunits (αβγ, or sometimes δβγENaC), plays a critical role in regulating salt and fluid homeostasis in the body.
Regulation of Renal Na+ Excretion by Antidiuretic Hormone
2014年12月1日 · Emerging evidence suggests that Na+ reabsorbed through ADH-stimulated ENaC contributes to the hyperosmotic gradient during the fine-tuning of urine concentration, which makes ENaC activation in this sense also anti-aquaretic. However, much about the contribution of ENaC to decreases in free water excretion is obscure and seems counterintuitive.

2021年3月5日 · Amiloride-sensitive epithelial sodium (Na+) channels (ENaC) play a crucial role in Na+ transport and fluid reabsorption in the kidney, lung, colon, vasculature, and immune system. ENaC is made up of three homologous subunits, α, β, and γ, in a trimeric...
Aldosterone-dependent and -independent regulation of Na
2020年8月8日 · We investigated the regulation of Na + and K + excretion and the epithelial Na + channel (ENaC) in mice lacking the gene for aldosterone synthase (AS) using clearance methods to assess excretion and electrophysiology and Western blot analysis to …
