An Australian rules football playing field is a venue where Australian rules football is played. The playing field is typically a large oval -shaped grass surface, usually a modified cricket field, hence often known as an oval. These fields may vary especially for variations of the game.

Should synthetic surfaces be used around the perimeter of the playing field, they must comply with AFL/CA standards and be at least 1.5m from the boundary line (i.e. if the field of play is natural turf, then the natural turf must extend at least 1.5m beyond the field of play before the synthetic turf starts).
