The Yakovlev Yak-38 (Russian: Яковлев Як-38; NATO reporting name: "Forger") was Soviet Naval Aviation's only operational VTOL strike fighter aircraft in addition to being its first operational carrier-based fixed-wing aircraft.

The AO-38 is a Soviet prototype assault rifle developed in the 1960s from the AKM platform. The weapon was to use the balanced automatic recoil system (BARS) to improve stability. The weapon would not be adopted, but the concept of BARS would be implemented in future firearms such as the AK-107.

The AO-38 is a 5.45x39mm assault rifle and AK derivative first to use the BARS system to improve stability, giving better accuracy over AK-74 rifles. It led to the creation of the AL-7 and the AEK-971, which further led to the creation of the AK-107.
