The AMC AMX/3 (alternate spelling: AMX III) is a mid-engine sports car produced by the American carmaker American Motors Corporation (AMC), which was presented to the Italian press in March 1970 and was to be produced in Germany by Karmann starting in 1971.

2013年8月30日 · One can only presume the AMC officials agreed, and the very car that impressed them has now come up for sale. One of only six built, the AMX/3 is best known as number 4, and according to owner Walter Kirtland of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, it’s the only one of the six to have been branded not as an AMC but as an “AMX/3 by Bizzarrini.”

Extensively researched with exceptional commitment, and beautifully restored, this stunning AMX/3 carries unbroken provenance from new — and a particularly fascinating early history as the Monza test car for the AMX/3 development program.

The project was called AMX/K and it convinced AMC management of the idea to actually build a mid-engined sports car, the AMX/3. March 1968, Meyers and Teague went to the Geneva Motor Show to meet Giorgetto Giugiaro and to ask him for a proposal.

The first and only AMX/3 Imported to the U.S. by AMC during the project. The AMX/3 was released to the US press on April 4th, 1970, at the Waldorf in New York and the fiberglass mockup was presented at the April 5th New York auto show. Dick Teague purchased it from AMC in 1978 along with Car #5 and Car #1.

In a desperate attempt to make up some ground to America's big three manufacturers, the American Motor Company set out to boost its reputation with an all new mid-engined supercar. The first sign of things to come was the non-running AMX/2 prototype launched at the 1969 Chicago Autoshow.
