Mercedes-Benz W202 is the internal designation for a compact sedan/saloon manufactured and marketed by Mercedes-Benz between 1992 and 2001, as the first generation of the C-Class, now in its fifth generation.

The transmission is an AMG-modified version of the 5-speed automatic gearbox found on the 1998-2000 R129 SL500. Modifications were made to achieve a crisper and better-adapted gearbox to higher-rpm upshifts. Also, the braking system was adopted from the W210 E55 AMG.
