The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, or APEC, is the leading forum in the Asia-Pacific to facilitate trade and investment, economic growth, and regional cooperation.

According to the Department of Commerce, U.S. exports of goods and services to APEC supported an estimated 4.8 million jobs in 2021 (latest data available) (3.6 million supported by goods exports and 1.2 million supported by services exports).

USTR represents the United States on critical trade and investment initiatives at APEC, with the goal of delivering for U.S. exporters concrete and meaningful results that break down barriers to trade in the Asia-Pacific, create jobs, and contribute to economic growth.

Productivity-enhancing reforms that promote innovation, technological adoption, and workforce skills development will also be critical to securing APEC’s long-term economic future. “As global uncertainties persist, APEC economies must reinforce trade openness, strengthen policy coordination, and pursue long-term reforms,” Kuriyama concluded.
