In a general way, the ARV (Armoured Recovery Vehicle), a military acronym well known today as AVLB (bridge layer) or CEV (Combat engineering vehicle), was a vehicle dedicated to recover battle damaged or broken down tanks during combat, saving them to receive more extensive repairs behind the frontlines.

K1 Armored Recovery Vehicle(ARV), as described, is designed to recover damaged tanks from the battlefield. It is one of the essential vehicles which recovers tanks from areas under threat or repair them within a safe area.

Type 653 ARV. The Type 84 is an armoured recovery vehicle based on the Type 79 tank, entering service with the PLA Army in 1984. The Type 84 features a powered structure controlling a dozer blade at the front of the hull and a hydraulically powered crane.

Bionix AVLB - Armoured Vehicle Launched Bridge variant fitted with an MLC30 bridge that can be launched within 7 minutes by a crew of two (commander and driver) from the internal armoured compartment or via remote control panel. When extended the bridge can be used to span a gap of up to 22 metres.

K1 AVLB is designed to support mechanized units with field maneuver and swift obstacle removal. K1 AVLB builds temporary bridges to support operations of mechanized units, with only 2 crew members operating the vehicle.

2023年1月9日 · AVLBs were upgraded with the diesel engine from the M48A5 beginning in the late 1970s, so the diesel vehicles could have either 3 or 5 return rollers. Improved cupolas with pivoting hatches were mounted with the diesel conversions.
