There are two surviving AT&SF 2-8-2 "Mikado" type locomotives. These two locomotives (numbers 3167 and 4076) were lost in a flood in 1952 and are now sunk in the Kaw River in Topeka, KS.

The Santa Fe (ATSF) No. 4076 was a 4000-class 2-8-2 Mikado typ steam locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1924 for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway. On July the 13th, 1951, Mikado no. 4076 - along with fellow Mikado 3167 - were among ten Santa Fe steamers, all awaiting scrap at the ATSF Topeka railroad shops.

5 天之前 · Three locomotives were lost. These were 2-6-2 1035 and 2-8-2s 3167 and 4076. They were left where they fell, the bridge was repaired, and the RR resumed operations. The nearby Rock Island bridge was weighted down with loaded gondolas, and also lost (they're probably still there also). In 1956, it was a drought year and the Kaw River was very low.

2022年6月29日 · I’ll be here in Topeka a week from now to try and find the remnants of a lost steam locomotive, ATSF 4076, which was lost during a major flood back in 1951. A few months ago I pointed out some major things about the whereabouts of the lost Mikado, and I found some evidence that it could be close by to the current bridge.
