The EMD F45 is a C-C cowled diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between 1968 and 1971. Power was provided by an EMD 645E3 20- cylinder engine which generated 3,600 hp (2,680 kW).

The F45 was the freight version of the FP45. It was noticably shorter (67 feet 5.5 inches compared to the FP45's 72 feet 4 inches) due to the lack of a steam generator section at the rear of the unit.

The EMD F45 was one of the very first modern cowl-bodied diesel locomotives built for the North American locomotive market. They were purchased by the Santa Fe, Great Northern as well as Burlington Northern after the 1970 merger.
