Armament Haki is capable of bypassing bodily defenses granted by Devil Fruits, such as Logia intangibility or Paramecia bodily modification, allowing the Haki user to land a blow on the Devil Fruit users "substantial body" (実体, jittai?) beneath the Devil Fruit defenses.

ACoC, in simple terms, is deliberately focusing and manipulating Conqueror’s Haki in order to deal damage. When Conqueror’s Haki is deliberately concentrated it manifests in the form of Conqueror’s Haki lightning.
